About Toronto

Toronto, the vibrant heart of Canada, is a dynamic city known for its diversity, culture, and skyline that’s instantly recognizable by the CN Tower. Located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto is Canada’s largest city and one of the most multicultural destinations in the world. It’s a place where over 160 languages are spoken, and you can find neighborhoods that reflect nearly every corner of the globe — from Chinatown and Little Italy to Greektown and Little India.

Beyond its cultural diversity, Toronto offers the perfect mix of urban excitement and natural beauty. Spend your mornings exploring art galleries and local cafés, your afternoons strolling along the Harbourfront or ferrying to the Toronto Islands, and your evenings enjoying skyline views from a rooftop patio. Whether you’re drawn by the food scene, the festivals, or the friendly locals, Toronto delivers something for every kind of traveler.

For digital nomads and long-term travelers, Toronto offers a thriving café culture, great Wi-Fi access, and plenty of co-working spaces — making it an ideal stop if you’re working remotely while exploring Canada. It’s also a gateway to other Ontario gems, like Niagara Falls and the Muskoka Lakes region, both easily accessible for day or weekend trips.

Top Things to Do in Toronto

There is no shortage of exciting things to do in Toronto, Canada. I went to Toronto at the beginning of Fall, just in time to see the leaves change colors on the trees (and before it got too cold for my liking). While I was in Toronto, I went to concerts, I drove about an hour away to go on different hikes, and I even took a day trip to Niagara Falls (which I'm including here since that's the only time I've been in case you're wondering why you're seeing pics here).

Go to the top of the CN Tower

If you want to see the entire city with a 360 degree view, you have to go to the top of the CN Tower. Such an amazing experience to see the city from above.

Pro Tip: go just before sunset to see the sun set over the horizon, but make sure to get a spot early because it will fill up.

Go for a walk around the city center

Just around every corner, you'll find something cool to see. Spend time at Casa Loma. See the bright lights at Yonge-Dundas Square. Walk around the charming streets of the Distillery District. There's no lack of cool things to see and do in the city!

Spend a morning at Evergreen Brick Works

There's fun for everyone at Evergreen Brick Works. Walk around and enjoy nature, and even get a great skyline view of the city. Get some delicious food. Shop for handmade crafts.

Take a stroll through High Park

Get some fresh air and some exercise by taking a walk at High Park. You can even go through the park's zoo and see capybaras, highland cows, and more.

Visit Scarborough Bluffs

Take a drive just outside the city to see these incredible rock formations for yourself. Pictures don't do it justice!

Watch the Sunset at Polson Pier

A great spot to watch the sun sink above the horizon in Toronto is from Polson Pier. You can sit along the dock and watch the sky change colors. Get there early to get a good spot. And pay attention to parking signs, because you can easily get a parking ticket (I did, oops).

Where to Stay in Toronto

I recommend staying as close as you can to the center of the city — especially near the CN Tower (marked with a star on the map below). This area keeps you within walking distance of top attractions like the waterfront, the Rogers Centre, and great restaurants. Toronto is also super easy to get around, thanks to its reliable public transportation and walkable downtown neighborhoods.

If you’re not sure where to book, here are a few great areas and options depending on your travel style and budget:

For the budget-savvy traveler: Look for cozy boutique hostels or budget-friendly hotels near Kensington Market or Chinatown. They’re lively, local, and offer plenty of character without breaking the bank.

For mid-range comfort: The Entertainment District or Queen Street West are perfect spots. You’ll find stylish hotels, comfy apartment stays, and easy access to all the must-see sights — ideal for travelers who want convenience and charm.

For a splurge-worthy stay: Treat yourself to a high-rise hotel near the Harbourfront or Yorkville for gorgeous skyline or lake views. These areas offer Toronto luxury at its finest — think rooftop pools, elegant lounges, and unbeatable proximity to the CN Tower and waterfront.
