The Top Things to Do in Antigua
Go on an overnight hike at Acatenango
This was one of the coolest but most challenging experiences of my life. While you're in Antigua, you can hike to Acatenango base camp and stay overnight with a close up view of Volcan de Fuego. If you're up for the challenge, you can do the option extra hike over to Fuego to see the eruptions even closer up (seen here).
See the city from Cerro de La Cruz
There are many different options you can choose from for ATV tours, but they all take you to incredible viewpoints of Antigua. Highly recommend even if you aren't experienced driving ATVs, but fair warning, it can get bumpy because of the cobblestone streets in Antigua.
Go for a hike at Pacaya Volcano
Take a day trip to Volcan de Pacaya for a less grueling, yet still challenging hike. Many of the tours will allow you to roast marshmallows, and some have the option to cook a pizza in the cracks of the volcano. Pacaya is one of Guatemala's 3 active volcanoes.
Take a day trip to Lake Atitlan
Or go for longer, because honestly that's my biggest regret. The lake itself was stunning, and I would have loved to spend more time exploring the various villages along the coast of the water.
