About my time in Germany
With my Eurosummer of 2023, I intended for Germany to be the final stop because I was planning to visit my college friend as my last destination. What I didn't plan was going to Germany earlier than that. after I made my way through Italy and switzerland, it became time to figure out where I would go in the weeks between Switzerland and heading back to the United States.
It was around the time of Oktoberfest, and that felt like it was an experience that I couldn't miss out on. I've had many friends go in the past, and they talked about how much fun it was. While I would have loved to have gone with friends, I was solo traveling at the time and felt it would still be fun to go to anyways. It's such a unifying place, and I knew once the beer started flowing, it would be easy to make friends. That's exactly what happened!
After I left Munich, I went to visit my friend Paulina in Ludwigshafen. She let me stay for 5 days at her apartment and took me exploring within the surrounding area. We went to a castle, also known as a Schloss. We went to a wine festival. And we enjoyed catching up with each other since we hadn't seen each other since high school.
Finally it was time to visit the last city before heading back to the United States. This is when I went to visit my college friend Brooke in Braunshweig. I was exhausted from traveling so frequently over the last 3 months that I didn't want to do anything. I told my friend Brooke but if there was anything she wanted to do while I was there, I would join in, but I didn't feel like planning anything. We explored the city and enjoyed time together catching up in her new city.
Places I visited in Germany
Munich
I went to the opening day of Oktoberfest in Munich while solo. I had no idea what to expect for this annual festival, but I had an absolute blast. I went multiple days and was able to meet up with one of my sister's friends.
Ludwigshafen
I stayed in Ludwigshafen with my friend from high school, Paulina, who was a foreign exchange student. It was so great to reconnect with her. She took me to Speyer, a wine festival in Bad Dürkheim, and Heidelberg, where we went to Schloss Heidelberg (also known as Heidelberg Castle, pictured here).
Braunschweig
Spending a week with my best friend while she was living in Braunschweig, a small northern town in Germany. From visiting the riverside to walking the charming city streets.
