Spain
In early 2026, I spent 2 months in different locations in Spain
About my time in Spain
After a month in Portugal, I made my way over to Madrid, Spain to visit my friend Mackenzie and her fiance Paolo. During my previous Europe trip, I visited them in Rome. Since then, they have moved to Madrid, and I wanted to make time to see them while I was nearby.
When I was in Madrid, I didn't do quite as much exploring as I normally do. I enjoyed spending my time visiting my friend, and I had a lot of freelance work. It kept me busy. The money was good, so I was okay with it.
When it came time to leave Madrid, I had no idea where I wanted to go next. I had about 30 days or so left in the Schengen area, so I could have either gone outside of the region or stayed there. Mackenzie mentioned that a lot of people from Spain like to go visit the Canary Islands, and there were multiple Islands of Interest. As I looked around on Airbnb, I wasn't quite sure which island I wanted to go to or if I even wanted to stick to Spain.
I had been wanting to go to Croatia, but I wanted to go when the weather was warmer, and I could take advantage of the beach. I kept making my way back to the Canary Islands. And one day I had a conversation with my mom about where I wanted to go next. When I told her about Tenerife, she heard the excitement in my voice about how beautiful the island was. it was that moment that I knew I wanted to go to Tenerife.
I booked it very last minute but it ended up being a destination that has my heart.
Places I visited in Spain
I spent two months in Spain - one month on the mainland in the busy city of Madrid, the other on the slower pace of life island of Tenerife. They were two totally different experiences, and I loved both areas. I can't wait to go back and explore more of Spain.
Learn about the following destinations:
Madrid, Spain
I spent one-month spending time with my friend Mackenzie while galavanting around the city. We explored wineries, historical sites, and finding some of the best churros in town (yes, they were fresh, and yes, they were delicious).
Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Spain
I spent one month in the small city of Puerto de la Cruz on the beautiful island of Tenerife, part of the Canary Islands. If I'm being honest, it's not really a place I knew about until my friend mentioned looking at some of the other islands. I knew of the Canary Islands, but not specifically of Tenerife.
This small city stole my heart. It's a bit smaller than other cities on the island, but it's lively and fun.
